Clinton McDonald

Clinton McDonald - Caulfield

From the outset, Clinton McDonald was destined to be a champion horse trainer. The Great Grandson of F W Hoysted (trainer of Rising Fast), Grandson of N D Hoysted (trainer of Manikato) and Son of Ross McDonald, Clinton is one of the stars of the new breed of trainers stamping their authority on racecourses across the country.

He was riding his own pony Panche at 2 and started a successfull polocrosse career by 13.

At 15, Clinton was representing Victoria in the under 21 team, which lasted until he was 22 whereupon he decided to following in his relatives footsteps.

He started breaking in horses and quickly built a formidable reputation as one of the best in the country.

Lee Freedman and Fred Kersley have both called on Clintons expertise in the trackwork of champion horses Don Eduardo (which went on to win the AJC Derby) and Northerly; with both singing the praises of the young Caulfield trainer.

Since he has commenced training, Clinton has trained:

- 3 Group 1's
- 3 Group 2's
- 1 Group 3's
- A variety of Listed Races

These Group Race successes includes those from the much loved Regal Roller. For the past 3 years Clinton has concentrated on purchasing a number of yearlings and building the McDonald Racing client base.

Clinton truely believes that communication between he and the owner is of utmost importance and will always make personal time for each and every owner, from the novice right through to industry stalwarts.
